The Department’s WaterSMART program is working to achieve a sustainable water strategy to meet the Nation’s water needs.

Sustainable Agriculture Grants
SARE is a competitive grants program providing grants to researchers, agricultural educators, farmers and ranchers, and students in the United States.
1890 Land-Grant Institution Initiative
Intended for land-grant universities to develop income-producing projects for underserved rural communities. The focus is on job creation in communities that are traditionally dependent on agriculture.
Biobased Products and Bioenergy Program
Intended to finance technologies needed to convert biomass into biobased products and bioenergy.
The Appropriate Technology Transfer for Rural Areas
The program encourages agricultural producers to adopt sustainable agricultural practices which allow them to maintain or improve profits, produce high quality food and reduce adverse impacts to the environment.
Research on Rural Cooperative Opportunities and Problems Program,
Encourages research on critical issues vital to the development and sustainability of cooperatives as a means of improving the quality of life in America’s rural communities.
Rural Cooperative Development Grants
Meant to establish and operate centers for cooperative development for the primary purpose of improving the economic condition of rural areas through the development of new cooperatives and improving operations of existing cooperatives.
Value-Added Agricultural Product Market Development Grants
VADG has two primary objectives. The first is to encourage independent producers of agricultural commodities to furthered refine these products increasing their value to end users. The second objective is to establish an Information resource center to collect, disseminate, coordinate, and provide information on value-added processing to independent producers and processors.
Agriculture Innovation Center (AIC) Program
Provides funding for to agricultural producers seeking to engage in the marketing of the production of value-added products.
Colorado Department of Agriculture: Specialty Crop Block Grant
Intended to enhance the competitiveness of growers of fruits, vegetables, and other horticultural crops in areas such as marketing, promotion, education, research, trade and nutrition.
Advancing Colorado’s Renewable Energy Grant Program
Provides funding for renewable energy projects that are connected with agricultural activities.
Ag. Products Utilization and Marketing Program
The Ag Products Utilization & Marketing Program was created by the Colorado Department of Agriculture (CDA) to assist Colorado agricultural and food companies in the research and development of new uses and markets for agricultural and food products that are grown, raised or processed in Colorado.
Colorado Water Conservation Board: Water Loan Program
Approximately $20 million is available annually for the CWCB Water Project Loan Program, which provides low-interest loans to agricultural, municipal and commercial borrowers for the design and construction of raw water projects in Colorado. A minimum loan request of $100,000 is recommended.
Agricultural Emergency Drought Response Program
The Program provides up to $1 million annually, in the form of loans or grants, for emergency drought-related water augmentation purposes to Colorado’s agricultural water users.
