2026 Confluence Institute – Focus on Urban Workshop
Looking for a fresh way to explore Colorado’s water resources and how they connect to your teaching? Join fellow Colorado educators for the 2026 Confluence Institute – Focus on Urban, a hands-on professional development workshop designed for K–12 teachers and non-traditional educators. This workshop explores the relationships between urban environments and water systems across Colorado.
Participants will deepen their understanding of how cities interact with their watersheds while examining historical and geographical factors that have shaped urban water use in the state. The workshop also delves into the policy context of water management, including how Colorado meets the Clean Water Act requirements and other federal standards for water quality monitoring.
Participants will:

- Explore Environmental Justice principles and how they relate to Colorado’s water issues.
- Apply the concept of Water Equity to real Colorado communities using the CO Enviroscreen Environmental Justice Mapper.
- Connect water quality and watershed topics to their own curriculum, integrating Social Studies and other discipline-specific standards.
The Confluence Institute – Focus on Urban is a great opportunity to build content knowledge, develop new classroom connections, and engage in meaningful discussions about Colorado’s most pressing water challenges.
