Our History
Central Colorado Water Conservancy District (CCWCD)
Founded in September 1965 under the 1937 Water Conservancy Act, our District is committed to the development, management, and protection of water resources across Northeast Colorado. Spanning the South Platte River corridor from Commerce City to Fort Morgan, we operate under the guidance of a fifteen-member Board of Directors, each appointed by district judges. Since day one, our Board has focused on securing vital water supplies and building reservoirs throughout the South Platte basin to meet the growing needs of our region.
Groundwater Management Subdistrict (GMS)
The Groundwater Management Subdistrict (GMS) was formed in 1973 under the direction of the Central Colorado Water Conservancy District (CCWCD). GMS provides augmentation for over 500-farm families who operate close to 900-wells within CCWCD’s boundaries.
Well Augmentation Subdistrict (WAS)
Established in 2004, the Well Augmentation Subdistrict (WAS) has faced numerous challenges. As the South Platte River remains over-appropriated, it continues to be at the heart of ongoing conflicts driven by growing industrial, municipal, and agricultural demands. The Well Augmentation Subdistrict of CCWCD remains dedicated to identifying new water sources and innovative storage solutions to provide reliable augmentation for its members.
